Working with its academic and industry partners, HydroConfidence has developed a suite of services to help the natural gas industry improve its environmental footprint while increasing financial competitiveness. HydroNG delivery of natural gas to displace diesel power helps producers save money and reduce emissions, while HydroMonitor air and water monitoring services help verify the reduced environmental impacts. The HydroMonitor water monitoring platform recently completed field testing in the Loyalhanna Creek Watershed.

HydroMonitor

By measuring pre- and post-drilling water quality, the aquifer monitoring system helps clients to understand the impact of shale gas drilling on the local environment and to take proactive corrective action when necessary. This system has completed field testing in the Loyalhanna Watershed region in association with the Loyalhanna Watershed Association and supported by a grant from the Foundation for Pennsylvania Watersheds. The Aquifer Monitoring Product is capable of monitoring water samples for years with minimal maintenance requirements.

HydroSensor

HydroConfidence is developing a sensor network to monitor the pressure and flow of gas and liquid within horizontal pipeline to allow well producers to optimize production. The system will also monitor the well’s mechanical integrity and detect problems in casing or cement. In the event of damage to a well, this will allow the well to be repaired as quickly as possible, minimizing the costs associated with diagnosis and stopping gas production. In addition, sensors will generate data on underground geology to provide a map of natural gas flows, water resources, and other geologic formations to ease future drilling operations.
